BAM.
Excuse me while I rant for a moment because I am Catholic and I am annoyed.
First of all, you are obviously showing an ignorance of Catholicism. During Lent (the time between Ash Wednesday and Easter), it is considered the general norm to give something up. Some kind of food, habit, whatever you pick. It is on Fridays that you are not supposed to eat meat, but even that is a tradition that is no longer prevalent with most Catholics. There are a lot of traditions and ideas that are still attributed to Catholicism that most Catholics do not practice or believe in. Not eating meat on Fridays during Lent, giving up something during Lent, belief in Purgatory, being homophobic.
Yes, the Catholic Church as an institution does not have a good view of homosexuality. That does not mean that every single Catholic you meet will be homophobic. I am Catholic and I love being Catholic. I really love the church and the way we do things. That doesn’t mean I believe in the kind of crazy notion of Purgatory or that gay people are damned to hell.
The problem I have with this little ecard is that it isn’t attacking the Catholic Church. Attack the institution all you want, you probably won’t get anywhere. The institution itself tends to be a little archaic. This is attacking practicing Catholics.
I just…ARGH. There is always going to be something you don’t agree with in regards to religion. Whether you practice it or not. Attacking an entire group of people is never okay, all right? It just starts this vicious cycle that will never ever end. Can we just stop with all the attacks on religion? Okay, you think it’s stupid. That is perfectly fine. But keep it to yourself, yeah? Don’t go and start attacking people just because they believe differently than you. It just ends badly.
I agree with the things said above, except that the e-card actually IS targeting their religion. Not the person. It’s...
Instead of meat, maybe you should give up your self-contradictory homophpbic religion for lent. Just sayin. Werd.
… and meat(for the sake of animals/environment/health, not religion). Just sayin’
You’ve just said everything I thought when I read this ecard. I… just… I can’t. Maybe later.
