I never got how people came up with Sam/Gabriel because even though I constantly had my slash goggles on, I never saw anything. Tumblr pairing induced.

Never saw it? Okay. But it’s definitely there.

So you might not see it at first, but it’s definitely there. No shipping goggles are needed.

Why I ship Gabriel/Dean and not Gabriel/Sam

annunciates:

Point 1:None of the angels give two shits about Sam except Cas, and that’s just barely.  The demon’s like Sam, and the angels like Dean.  Angels don’t approach the world like humans do, it’s not an issue of liking people for who they are, but what their usefulness is.  IN GENERAL at least.

AT NO POINT does Gabriel ever seem to be friendly to Sam.  In FACT, he’s absolutely nothing but a dick to him.  He makes his life hell.

To see chemistry in Mystery Spot is to completely ignore the fact that Dean > anyone else to Sam.  Killing Dean over and over again is not a way to gain his affection.

Point 2: Dean gets through to Gabriel.  NO ONE ELSE gets through to him.  He’s been hiding for what, 1000 years now?  Only Dean could get through, because him and Dean are v. similar.  Gabriel is the Dean of the Angel Family, plus more self preservation.

Point 3: In Changing Channels, while trying to give a message to both of them, Sam’s the one who gets the short end of the stick in almost every situation.  Dean gets a sandwich and sex, Sam gets herpes and kicked in the junk.

Point 4: the main message of the show is supposed to be one of family.  This is where I think the importance in Gabriel and Dean’s relationship is.  They both stress the importance of family and it’s why Dean is constantly able to get through to him.  They understand each other in a way that Sam would not.  Dean’s heaven, after all, is memories of Sam, whilst Sam’s is someone else’s thanksgiving.  I personally believe that there is almost nothing Sam could have said to get Gabriel to sacrifice himself for any cause.

That said, I only ship Gabriel/Dean post-Changing Channels and post-Hammer of the Gods, which unfortunately doesn’t work because Gabriel kicks it.  I desperately, DESPERATELY want him back.  This is one of the many reasons.

First of all, I’m not trying to incite anything here. But a couple of things you said got to me as a Sabriel shipper, so I want to address them. I completely understand why and how you ship Dean/Gabriel (Debriel?), but there are some things that I disagree with her. And I’m putting this behind a “read more” because of how much I ramble.

Let me elaborate on this, because (as I’m sure you all know) this is the reason I ship these two. Gabriel was still the Trickster here. He didn’t want to be Gabriel. But he also didn’t want the Apocalypse to happen. Because at this point, both of his brothers were alive. The Apocalypse could be avoided at this point.
And this lesson is different from the others Gabriel taught. The people he went after in Tall Tales, and even at the beginning of this episode, were all being punished. Professor sleeping around? Have him fall out a window when he sees something he didn’t like. College kid hazing? Terrorise him right back. Guy doesn’t believe in wormholes? Toss him in one.
His lesson with Sam is different. He was actually trying to teach Sam. Yes, it was twisted. But he was a Trickster. He was trying to get through to Sam. He was killing Dean to try and stop Sam. He wasn’t punishing him for anything. He was trying to stop him from drinking demon blood and being completely driven by revenge (remember - Gabe said that he looked ahead and saw how everything ended).
And it does show that he cares about Sam. Because he believed that Sam could be taught. He believed in Sam and believed that he was strong enough to change. And that means something. It really does, considering that Gabriel was the Trickster and Loki. Even after seeing all the crap humans were capable of doing, he still believed that Sam could change.

SABRIEL IS SO LEGIT

And this is why I never understand why people say that Sabriel doesn’t have any evidence to back it up. This scene alone is enough evidence to make Sabriel a legitimate ship.
Let’s think about this in context. At this point, Gabriel is still under the guise of the Trickster. He probably hasn’t considered himself “Gabriel the Archangel” for hundreds of years. He has spent that time giving humans “lessons” that were always punishment for their deeds. Even when we didn’t know that the Trickster was Gabriel, this scene was incredibly telling of his character.
Why? Because of the line above. Why should he care if Sam was going to die? Look at the MO of all his other victims. They all did something wrong. They did something to deserve the punishment in some form.
But Sam didn’t. Gabriel, who was still completely the Trickster at this point, acted in a way completely unlike how Tricksters act. He set out to actually teach Sam a lesson. He was actually trying to help Sam. No, he didn’t do it the right way. He should have realised that killing Dean over and over would not teach Sam anything.
But he tried. He tried for months. Even after it stopped being “fun.” And you know what this scene proves to me? It proves that Gabriel cares about Sam. It shows that Gabriel acted outside of the norm he had created for himself to try and help Sam.
And you know what else? It also shows that Gabriel did try to stop the Apocalypse. This was his attempt. He was trying to stop Sam from turning to revenge and turning to that life that would lead him to killing Lilith. Because in this moment? I find it really hard to believe that Gabriel wanted the Apocalypse. Because in this moment, both of his brothers were alive. Even if things were still a mess, they were alive.
And it shows that Gabriel believed Sam could turn from that path. He wouldn’t have wasted his time on trying to teach him a lesson if he thought it was futile. He wanted Sam to make the right choice. He had faith that Sam could. But because he cared about Sam, he brought Dean back. What other reason could he have had? He had nothing to gain from bringing Dean back. But he did. Because Sam begged him to.
So for me? This scene is my foundation for Sabriel. Because we saw in Tall Tales that Sam liked Gabriel before finding out what he was (that scene in the office was from Sam’s point of view and was blatantly flirtatious) - this is the scene that shows that Gabriel cares as well.

Dear Sabriel shippers,

thisthingthatimsaying:

 Why?

Now, that is an honest question with no implied judgement of any kind. I will gladly ship Sabriel (and kind of already do) but where did it come from? I mean, Dean and Cas have their profound bond and random eye-fuck moments so it was pretty easy to pick up on Destiel but I never picked up on anything like that from Sam and Gabriel. Was Gabriel paired up with Sam since Dean already had his angel?

I pretty much ship anyone with anyone (except Wincest… can’t really get into Wincest…) so I’m not trying to be a jerk but I am really curious. Does anyone know where this ship started?

Well, I’m not entirely sure how it initially started - I haven’t watched the show long enough to know that - but I can tell you why. I’m going to link you to a post where I explained in depth but I’ll hit the main points here.

That ended up being longer than I wanted it to be, but…meh. Hope this helped explain things to you!

because I haven’t actually done this yet and now I’m in the mood…

Why I ship Sabriel. Or a mini-character analysis of Gabriel and Sam.
